WEST BOYLSTON, MA. — West Boylston football coach Mike Ross is closing in on a milestone: his 200th career win this Friday night as the Lions take on Bartlett on the road. While the program may be light on numbers, it more than makes up for it in determination, toughness, and team spirit.
“Yeah, our numbers are lower,” Ross said. “But the kids have a lot of heart. They play hard because they know they have to. They push through pain and injuries, and that’s been the key to our success since I’ve been here.”
For the players, being part of a smaller roster has its challenges — but also opportunities. “Being a smaller group makes some things harder,” said West Boylston defensive end Charlie Metzmaker. “But it also allows a lot of us to step up, become more versatile, and fill the roles the team needs.”
Despite the challenges, the Lions’ grit and adaptability continue to define the program, proving that heart and teamwork can outweigh sheer numbers on the field.
