Golden Retriever Puppies for Adoption in Massachusetts After Backyard Breeder Rescue

EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of rescued golden retrievers, including three litters of puppies, are now safe at a Massachusetts animal rescue and looking for new homes.

Second Chance Animal Services in East Brookfield recently stepped in after an alleged backyard breeder in New York was shut down for animal cruelty. In total, 56 dogs — including three mother dogs — were rescued, and 26 were brought to Massachusetts.

“The conditions were awful, there’s really no other way to put it,” said a Second Chance employee. “The people on-site said it was one of the worst situations they’d ever seen.”

Golden Retriever Puppies Ready for Adoption

The rescued golden retriever puppies, which typically cost thousands of dollars, are now available for adoption through Second Chance Animal Services. The shelter is urging families interested in dog adoption in Massachusetts to apply through their official website.

For those not in a position to adopt, the shelter is also accepting donations to help cover the estimated $15,000–$20,000 in medical costs needed to treat and care for the dogs.

“This is everything, this is why we’re here,” the staff member said. “It’s the best part of the job — knowing you’re changing their lives.”

Community Support Needed

With shelters across the region at or near capacity, Second Chance Animal Services emphasized the importance of community support. Donations not only cover the immediate medical needs of these rescued golden retrievers, but also ensure the shelter is ready for future emergencies.
