WORCESTER, MA. — The Worcester Railers are bringing back a familiar face on the blue line. Defenseman Cam McDonald has signed with the team for the 2025-26 ECHL season, the club announced.
McDonald, 24, spent most of last year with Worcester while under an AHL deal with the Bridgeport Islanders. In 35 games with the Railers, he registered 14 assists, including four in his first three professional outings. He also appeared in 16 games for Bridgeport, notching one assist.
Heading into the new season, McDonald is expected to log heavy minutes as a top-pairing defenseman. He becomes the seventh defenseman — and the 23rd player overall — signed by Worcester for the upcoming campaign.
For McDonald, returning to the Railers was an easy decision.
“The DCU Center is unbelievable,” McDonald said in a team release. “We’re able to play in front of great fans every night, and that says volumes. It’s hard not to want to be there and playing for the fans.”
A native of Eagle River, Alaska, McDonald began his junior career in the NAHL with the Kenai River Brown Bears, leading the team in assists (37) during the 2017-18 season. He later played in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, tallying 15 points across 59 games and earning spots on the NAHL Midwest All-Rookie Team and NAHL All-Rookie Second Team.
McDonald then spent five seasons at Providence College, appearing in 162 games for the Friars. He totaled nine goals and 22 assists in his NCAA career and served as team captain during his final season.
With his return secured, McDonald will look to anchor Worcester’s defense and build on a strong first year in professional hockey.
