WORCESTER, Mass. — Demolition is officially underway at the long-standing Lakeside Apartments in Worcester, marking the start of a major redevelopment project in the city’s Columbus Park neighborhood.
Crews began phase one of the demolition at 8 a.m. Monday at the apartment complex located at 46 Lakeside Ave., according to the Worcester Housing Authority. The project is part of a four-phase plan to remove the aging buildings and replace them with modern, energy-efficient housing.
Originally constructed in 1949, the Lakeside Apartments have served residents for decades. Officials say the redevelopment will bring updated living spaces designed to meet current housing standards while improving sustainability and long-term affordability.
The Worcester Housing Authority has not yet released a timeline for the completion of all four phases but says the project represents a significant investment in the neighborhood’s future.
