WORCESTER, MA. – The WPI football program is turning the page with one of its youngest rosters in years, but don’t mistake youth for weakness. After graduating nearly 40 players from last season—including both seniors and fifth-year athletes who used their extra year of eligibility—the Engineers are reloading with fresh talent, strong chemistry, and plenty of determination.
Head Coach Chris Robertson knows this year’s team will look different, but he’s confident in the group’s potential.
“We’re a much different team than in 2024,” Robertson said. “We graduated close to 40 guys between our fourth-years and fifth-years last year. This group is young, scrappy, raw, and athletic—but overall, really talented. The chemistry has been strong early on, and our older guys have embraced the younger guys. It’s been exciting to see, especially with freshmen already stepping into impactful roles.”
The Engineers will showcase that new energy in their season opener on Saturday, September 6, at 6 p.m., when they host long-time rival RPI under the lights in Worcester.
With toughness, intelligence, and a hunger to prove themselves, WPI’s next generation is ready to take the field.
